Use Clean Energy such as solar electric, solar thermal, and wind energy
First of all, fuel from the sun is free! The sun delivers enough energy to fuel the entire planet every eight minutes. Renewable energy uses technology that can capture this immense energy source. Today's power plants are the single largest source of greenhouse gases. More than half of the electricity in the United States comes from heavy polluting coal-fired power plants. We all need electricity and there are better ways to get it. Talk to your local utility company and request that your electricity comes from a renewable source. Home Solutions - Energy Star appliances, light bulbs, insulation, gray water
Over half of you home's energy use can be from heating and cooling. Choosing energy efficient furnaces, water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners will be most cost effective when including initial cost and on-going energy costs. When shopping for new appliances, look for the Energy Star label.

Switch your incandescent lights out for CFL's or LED light bulbs are always more cost effective, because incandescent lose more than 90% of its energy as wasted heat. CFL's lose about 60% of its energy to heat and LED's may only lose about 5%. If you are paying $0.10 (10 cents) per kWh for energy, the payback time for a CFL will be a couple months and CFL's will last much longer than incandescent.

Transportation - alternative fuels, public transportation
On January 2, 2008, oil costs rose to a $100 per barrel. Fuel for transportation has become expensive and has forced innovations in new technology. Alternative fuels and hybrid technology have opened some doors into the way transportation will change. Fuel economy is an important standard to examine when purchasing a new car. Each gallon of gas used is responsible for 25 pounds of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Better gas mileage will improve air quality, reduce GHG emissions, and save you big money at the pump.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible. Getting use to recycling is important and is helpful for reducing your trash waste. Recycling trash is crucial to reducing landfill waste and creates a new way of industry thinking. Materials that are not useful for us can be useful in other industries. For example, recycled styrofoam is reused for building materials and insulation, plastic bottles are reused to make outdoor furniture, just to name a few. Get use to thinking in a closed loop system, where eveything we use will eventually be used for another purpose.
